# How to Update Your Hours of Operation

## Help your customers plan their visit by keeping your working hours accurate. Learn how to update your website hours and avoid lost revenue, poor customer experiences, and negative reviews.

### Operating vs. Descriptive Hours

From your SpotHopper dashboard, navigate to **Settings → Hours**.

The **Operating & Kitchen Hours** tab opens by default when accessing the Hours settings.

*Operating Hours* and *Descriptive Hours* are the two types of hours that can be displayed on your website, but they serve a different purpose:

**Operating Hours**

- Represent your actual working hours
- Can include multiple time ranges on the same day
- Display on your website unless you have Descriptive Hours set
- Are used as the default availability schedule for inquiry forms when no [custom Service Hours](https://howto.spothopperapp.com/knowledge/changing-hours-for-your-inquiry-forms#service_hours)schedule is assigned
- Are suggested to Google - if your package includes [Google Integratiom](https://howto.spothopperapp.com/knowledge/google-business-integration?hsLang=en)

**Descriptive Hours**

- Are optional and control how your hours are displayed on your website
- Override your Operating Hours on the website if added
- Do not affect inquiry forms or available time slots
- Are not suggested to Google

⚠️ I*f both are set, your website will display **Descriptive Hours**, while your inquiry forms will continue to follow your **Operating Hours** by default (if no [custom service hours](https://howto.spothopperapp.com/knowledge/changing-hours-for-your-inquiry-forms#service_hours)are set).*

On the Hours Settings page, you will also see a separate **Kitchen Hours** section for setting a kitchen schedule that differs from your Operating Hours.

Kitchen Hours are currently used only by [Virtual Host](https://howto.spothopperapp.com/knowledge/answer-your-phone-with-virtual-host-3.0?hsLang=en) to tell callers when your kitchen is open. They are not displayed on your website and do not affect availability for reservations, inquiries, or online orders.

*Kitchen Hours are not currently shared with Google. Coming soon, customers with Google Integration will also be able to share them with Google.*

### Updating Your Operating Hours

To update your Operating Hours, navigate to **Settings → Hours → Operating & Kitchen Hours.**

1. Click the **Edit** button on the right side of the **Operating Hours** section.

2. The section will expand to display the schedule for each day.

3. Use the toggle to set each day to **Open** or **Closed**.

4. To add or update the hours for an open day, click the existing time range under **Hours**. Enter the opening and closing times, including the appropriate **AM/PM** selection.

5. If the same hours apply to multiple days, click the **three dots** on the right side of a day you’ve already set. Select **Duplicate to weekdays (Mon–Fri)** to apply those hours to all weekdays, or **Duplicate to all days (Mon–Sun)** to apply them to the entire week. You can then adjust any individual days that have different hours.

6. Click **Save Hours** when you're finished.

💡Unless you set Descriptive Hours, your Operating Hours will now be displayed on your website.

**Important:** Operating Hours are also used as the default availability schedule for your inquiry forms. If a service operates on a different schedule, you can set separate availability under **Service Hours**. #### Adding Multiple Time Ranges (Split Hours)

If your restaurant has multiple service periods in one day, such as lunch and dinner with a break in between, you can add multiple time ranges to the same day.

For example, if you're open for lunch from 11:00 AM–2:00 PM and dinner from5:00 PM–11:00 PM, you can enter each service period as a separate time range. 

To set split hours:

1. Start by entering the **first open time window** for the day under Hours, including the opening and closing times.

2. Click **Add Time Range** to add another open period to the same day.

3. Enter the **opening and closing times** for the additional time range.

4. Repeat these steps if you need additional time ranges, then click **Save Hours.**

Each time range represents a period when your restaurant is open. The time between ranges is treated as closed. 

If the **"Add Time Range"** option isn’t showing, check your closing time. When it’s set to **12:00 AM**, there’s no remaining time in that day for another range.

If you change the closing time to an earlier time, the "Add Time Range" option will become available.

### Setting Descriptive Hours

Use Descriptive Hours when you need more flexibility in how your hours are presented on the website, sucn as for  **special or holiday hours, different kitchen and bar hours, or temporary schedule changes.**

To set them, go to **Settings → Hours**, scroll to **Descriptive Hours**, and enter your hours exactly as you want them to appear on your website. Then click **Save Descriptive Hours**.

Once saved, your Descriptive Hours will be displayed on your website instead of your Operating Hours.

 ⚠️ Descriptive Hours only change the hours displayed on your website. They **do not affect your inquiry forms** or when customers can submit requests.
