The Importance of Website Analytics

The analytics page provides invaluable insight into what your audience does when they visit your website.

By tracking and measuring these metrics, you will understand the behavior of your visitors better.

That will help you gain perspective on what needs to be improved marketing-wise, to motivate your audience to engage more.

Knowing how your visitors interact with your website will help you find ways to improve the user experience, which will only result in more guests and increased revenue.

Understanding Your Analytics Page

The "Analytics" page may look a bit overwhelming at first since it’s all charts and graphs, but it’s very straightforward. You just need to learn what the stats mean and how to read them.

To start, log into your SpotHopper account. On the left sidebar, click on "Analytics" under "Settings."

The analytics tab is divided into different categories.

  • Website Stats – Measures the number of website visitors for a given period of time, as well as the number of page views and detailed page analysis using Google Analytics 4.
  • Stats per Inquiry Page – Tracks the statistics of your inquiry pages (Private Parties, Catering, Reservations, Jobs, and Orders)
  • Email stats – The detailed statistics of the email blasts you send out.
  • Facebook stats – This category measures the statistics of the posts that you schedule through the SpotHopper platform.

Website Stats

At the very top of your Analytics page, you will see the Website Stats, and they measure four different things:

Stats per Month

This chart represents the number of website visitors per given month.

As seen above, you have three categories represented by three lines in various shades of blue.

  • Total Page Views (Dark blue color) – The total number of page views per month. This is not limited to your homepage only, but counts the total page views including your Menu, About Page, Reservations, Catering, etc.
  • Website Visitors (Lighter Blue color) – The total number of website visitors per month.
  • New Website Visitors (The lightest shade of blue) - Counts the number of new website visitors.

However, this can be somewhat misleading. For instance, if someone visited your website in May, then cleared their website cookies/cache, and visited your website again in June, the June view will count as a New Website Visitor, although technically that will not be the case.

Views by Page

This pie chart visualizes the pages your visitors view. Your homepage will most likely have the most views, but this chart is great for quickly gaining insight into what other pages are visited the most.

Page Analysis

Under this section, you can see the analysis for your pages, for different periods of time. You have the option to choose between four views and check the analysis for:

  1. Last week
  2. Last 30 days
  3. Last 90 days
  4. Last year

The page analysis shows you:

  • The total number of visitors (and new visitors) within the given time
  • The number of sessions (user interactions like clicks or transactions) per page, as well as the duration of each session.

Tip: If a page listed in an unfamiliar language, this is due to diners' browsers translating and rendering the page differently on their device.

Below the Page Analysis table, you will see a brief monthly overview of the number of visitors per page. Again, the chart will show total page views, website visitors, and new website visitors.

Private Party/Group Reservations Stats

If you’re using our Private Party inquiry form, then this section is where you can check your monthly stats.

On the chart, you will see the number of received inquiries (the blue line) as well as the number of confirmed inquiries (the green line).

Another great thing about these stats is that they also show you the source where the inquiry has come from:

The pie chart is a great indicator of what draws your customers to submit inquiries, and it can help you strengthen your marketing campaigns too.

Catering Stats

In this section, you will see a line graph showing the number of catering inquiries received per month, as well as a pie chart where you can see the source of the inquiries.

Reservations Stats

Similar to the Catering stats, the Reservations statistics show you the number of inquiries received per month (line chart) and the source of the inquiries (pie chart).

Jobs Stats

The Jobs line chart shows the number of job applications you have received for a given month.

Order Stats

For the Order statistics, you have three different charts:

Orders Received per month – Shows you the number of received orders (blue line) and the number of accepted orders (green line), per month.

Approximated Revenue ($) per Month

Order Source
Better understand how your customers go from thinking about you to spending money with you. Identify if you should shift your marketing campaigns accordingly.

Email Stats

The "Email Stats" section is for the statistics of email blasts sent through the platform.

As you can see in the chart above, you have the option to track six metrics:

  1. Sent – The number of emails sent per month
  2. Opened – The number of the sent emails that were actually opened
  3. Open Rate – A percentage of your subscribers who have opened the email (calculated out of your total number of subscribers)
  4. Clicked – The number of people who were engaged enough to read the email and click through to the desired page.
  5. Clicked Rate – This represents the percentage of your total number of subscribers who have clicked through the email.

If you’ve had an email blast sent in the last 30 days, you will be able to see the breakdown below.

In addition to the date and subject line, each breakdown provides the number of emails sent, opened, clicked, and unsubscribed for an individual email.

Facebook Stats

This section is for the statistics of your Facebook posts scheduled through SpotHopper.

The chart includes the number of posts per month, as well as the number of views and reactions.

  • Views - represent the number of times your posts have been presented in someone's feed.
  • Reactions - show you the number of likes/comments for a given post.

If you've had a scheduled post in the past 30 days, you will see the breakdown below the main stats chart.

The breakdown of an individual post shows you the date and name of each post in the last 30 days, as well as the number of views and reactions.

Not seeing stats in your analytics tab yet?

  • New websites must allow one month until stats are shown.
  • Email stats take one week to populate.
  • Social media stats will appear the quickest, but can still have delay.
All of these time windows allow time to gather reliable data insights.
