What Are Special Occasion Menus?
Whether for New Year's, Easter, Christmas or even a weekly brunch, crafting a special menu reflective of the occasion can impress your guests and improve your restaurant's profile.
Unlike your regular menu, which has a wide repertoire aimed at different groups of people, your special occasion menu should be centered around the event that's being celebrated.
Finger foods for Game Night; Spooky desserts for Halloween; Strawberries and chocolate for Valentine's. You get the picture!
Offering a special occasion menu will particularly help you stand out during the holidays!
How to Add Special Occasion Menus in SpotHopper?
1. Go to "Menus" under "Your Info" and scroll down to the "Special Purpose/Occasion/Event Menus."
2. Find the menu you wish to add, for instance, "Easter" or "Valentine's Day" and click on the pencil icon to edit it.
If you wish to create a custom special menu that's not on the list, click on the "Add Another Special Purpose/Occasion/Event Menu" button at the bottom of the page.
3. Choose the menu section that applies from the drop-down menu
4. Then, click on "Add New Menu Item,"
and fill in the details by adding the name, description, price, and size of the item. Then click on "Save."
To add an image, click on the camera square to choose a photo from your gallery or upload a new one.
As you can see, adding a special occasion menu is no different than creating and editing regular menu items. The only difference is that special occasion menus do not appear on your menu page.
Where Can Your Customers See Your Special Occasion Menu?
When you have special dishes or discounted offers to promote, you don't want them overshadowed by the length of your traditional menu.
For that reason, we have created a new way to add limited menus, which does not display them on your menu page.
The best thing about the special occasion menus? You don't have to worry about taking them down after the event has passed!
The special menus are promoted via promotions, meaning that your customers can view the menus by clicking on the menu button from:
1. A pop-up on your website
2. An Email
3. A Text
4. A social media post
Promoting Special Occasion Menus
There are two ways in which you can promote your special occasion menus:
1. Via a custom promotion that you make from scratch
2. Via a standard promotion if it's for a holiday you already have a pre-made promotion in SpotHopper, like Christmas, Easter, Mother's Day, Valentine's Day, etc.
Creating the Promotion:
Go to "Promotions/Announcements" under "Your Info," and either select the "Edit" option for a Standard Promotion or click on the green "Create a Custom Promotion" button if you want to create one from scratch.
For the Website Pop-Up, fill in the details for your promotion by selecting the dates and adding the title, content, and image, just like you would with a regular promotion.
Then, scroll down to the "Call to Action/Direct Customers Towards" section, and expand the drop-down menu under "Website Page." Currently, you can view special occasion menus only for Valentine's Day and Easter, but this will be updated soon to have all of your special menus listed there.
Write down your preferred name for the menu button,
and continue to set the email, text, and social media posts, if promoting your menu there, as well. Once done, don't forget to hit the green "Save" button in the lower right corner of your screen.
How This Looks on Your Website
Once active, your promotional pop-up will look something like this:
Once your customers click on the menu button, they will be directed to the dedicated page for your Special Occasion Menu:
Your customers will also be directed to this menu page when they click on the link they will receive via promotional email, text, or a social media post.
There is no need to take down your Special Occasion Menu, as it will not be displayed anywhere else on your website. Once the promotion ends, the pop-up will disappear, and your menu will no longer be visible on your website.
